Billing Specialist

Reports To: Business Office Manager

Summary: Oversees general billing statements, answers the telephone system, performs clerical duties and oversees all activities associated with the collection of receivables within established corporate guidelines by performing the following duties.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Applies knowledge of practice procedures to respond to incoming / outgoing correspondence and documents.*
2. Monitors and contacts patients and insurance companies aging accounts for delinquency through related reports on a regular basis.*
3. Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.*
4. Answers questions from patients, staff and insurance companies.
5. Initiate and negotiate appropriate payment terms with accounts.
6. Process and review daily billing statements to ensure correct charges, dates and appropriate notations, and prepares statements for mailing.*
7. Responds to billing statement discrepancies.*
8. Processes all related billing statements and documentation as assigned.*
9. Processes and posts payments, and prepare daily deposit.*
10. Creates and maintains correspondence letters on for various incoming and outgoing correspondence.*
11. Operates standard office equipment to include:
– multi-line telephone/voicemail
– fax machine
– computer
– photocopy machine
– adding machine/calculator.*

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; accounting software and internet software.
