Education brings confidence
We always want expectant mothers to be confident in their decision to breastfeed. To that end, we want to educate you about breastfeeding by providing you with some basic facts about this amazing opportunity to breastfeed for all new mothers.
Breastfeeding facts
Not all mothers choose to breastfeed, and that’s okay. If you’re not sure if breastfeeding is right for you, here are some helpful facts about how breastfeeding affects early childhood nutrition and development, as well as the mother’s own health:
- Breastfeeding can mean more than one thing, from babies feeding directly from the breasts to the mother pumping for later. Every mother does what she feels is right for her and her newborn.
- Human breast milk contains stem cells that help the baby to develop, for instance, by becoming heart and brain tissue.
- Mothers’ breast milk tastes and smells like the foods the mother eats. For that reason, mothers can introduce their babies to the tastes of certain foods so they grow up liking them.
- Babies benefit from the antibodies in mothers’ breast milk. Those antibodies help their bodies fight off illnesses.
- Exclusive breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the mother’s risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer, as well as type II diabetes and depression.
- Breastfeeding can help mothers lose weight, as it burns between 200 and 500 calories every day.
