Nurse Practitioner

Job Title: Nurse Practitioner, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)
Reports To: Medical Director
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) works collaboratively with the health care team in pediatric medicine to delivery patient care and act as a resource for families.

Duties and responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Acts as a resource for patients, families, staff, or community groups providing education and emotional support.
  • Performs and documents thorough patient & family assessments which require ongoing collection of data.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, monitors, manages & modifies a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Provides for a plan of care of sufficient breadth & depth to guide the interdisciplinary team in achieving the desired health outcomes for patients and families.
  • Collaboratively develops educational goals, objectives and follow-up plan for educational & teaching methods with the patient & families.
  • Provide care appropriate to the developmental level of the patient.
  • Identifies when patient needs are outside the scope of the practice & expertise, arranges for additional services to meet needs.
  • Generates & collects data in order to make clinical decisions about the initiation of appropriate orders, procedures, referrals, & treatments.
  • Models professional verbal &written communication with the interdisciplinary team involved in the ongoing management of patient outcomes.
  • Participates in activities associated with patient care (e.g., writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care and discharge planning).
  • Develops & maintains relationships and/or partnerships with community groups, payers & potential referral sources, as needed.
  • Manages the approvals from insurance companies, provides clinical information & appeal letters as needed with assistance from management.
    Provides educational interventions that utilize age appropriate interactive and skill-based training methods.
  • Provides direction for the selection of ongoing reviews of curriculum & educational materials to ensure they meet the needs of targeted population.
  • Write, develops and presents talks and presentations for practice and community events
  • Assists with Patient-Centered Medical Home transition and maintenance.

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Providing primary care services, health-maintenance care for age 0-21, including annual physicals. Obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
  • Ordering diagnostic studies (e.g., routine lab tests, x-rays,)
  • Prescribing physical therapy and other rehabilitation referrals
  • Prescribing drugs for acute and chronic illness (extent of prescriptive authority varies by state regulations)
  • Providing adolescent physical examinations
  • Providing well-child care, including screening and immunizations
  • Assisting in minor surgeries or procedures (with additional training and/or under physician supervision in states where mandated)
  • Counseling and educating parents on health maintenances, child-care skills, chronic care management and treatment options

Available for on-call duties rotating evening and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, masters degree as NP.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner in
    Pennsylvania
  • Previous experience in pediatric practice not required but highly preferred

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; internet software and database software.

Education/Experience:

Master’s Degree in Nursing
